The largest African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in the Virginia Conference in Downtown Richmond
Hood Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is located in Downtown Richmond, Virginia's historic Jackson Ward. We are led by the Rev. Dr. Edmund H. Whitley, Sr., one of America’s most distinguished AME Zion pastors. Hood Temple AME Zion Church is bounded by historic sites including the Maggie Walker House, historic statue of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and the Black History Museum. Seated in an academic Mecca, Hood Temple is bounded by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Main Campus to the North, Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education to its East and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and VCU Heath Systems to its South.
Among progressive places of worship in the Downtown Richmond academic Mecca, Hood Temple AME Zion Church affirms and welcomes young adults from the collegiate community. We are consummately committed to Jesus Christ, and blend traditional with contemporary worship to create an exciting intergenerational worship experience. As a 21st Century congregation in the heart of the city with the people at heart, we combine technological innovation with social transformation. If you are looking for a worship experience filled with powerful praise, join us each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Downtown Richmond. For a consultation with the pastor, please contact Dr. Whitley at drehchwhitley@verizon.net
